Ready to Jump

I decided to grill out one afternoon and went to remove the cover on the grill. This is when I first met Froggie. He was suctioned to the top of my grill. I couldn’t turn on the grill at this point for fear of toasting my new found friend. What to do? Well, I did what any aspiring photo-enthusiast would do, run to the nearest camera. I was hoping that he wasn’t hopping (sorry for that) away. I returned with a Sony Cyber-Shot and switched it on. I put the camera in macro mode and placed the lens about five inches from his nose. He was kind enough to let me take three shots before going about his merry way.

This shot was taken at f/4 with 9mm at 1/200 sec. I still hold hope that he will return one day for a follow up shoot where I can use my DSLR camera, lights, tripods, reflectors and the like. It was at this point that I remembered something I once heard at a photo workshop – The best camera you have is the one you have in your hands. Often times we let moments pass without capturing them because we don’t have our “good” camera ready or with us. What did I take away from this chance meeting? All photo opportunities are “ready to jump” at any moment and the only way to capture them is to fire away with whatever “camera” you happen to have handy.
