US Open

Pancake02_LAB_IMG_4999_edited-1Spent the day at the practice round for the 2014 US Women’s Open at Pinehurst No. 2. Since photography is only permitted during the practice rounds I figured this would be a good chance to attempt my first golf photography. I only could carry one lens attached to the camera so I chose the 70-200mm 2.8 because of the limited access. It also helps to know the course layout and to choose a strategy of how you want to shoot. Since I had never attempted golf before I tried several different techniques. I attempted shots from the tee box, approach shots and some on the putting green. The putting shots were the most challenging because the golfers rarely look up and when they do you have to hope you are the right side of the green. Moving to get another shot is difficult due to the limited and dedicated crossings of the fairway which are often many yards from the green. Instead of following a group of golfers around the entire course I chose to concentrate on 3-4 holes which allowed me to photograph more of the golfers in the field.
